All cars in the series are a Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ or Toyota GT86, model years 2013-current. These cars are consistently rated as one of the best track cars and have quite a following. Car modifications are focused on safety for the driver and engine. We do allow relatively few performance modifications but those that make a significant performance difference are all spec-ed. spec-ed. Since the Spec 86 Cup series is hosted by NASA, the car is classed in PTD. The car will need a dyno re-class to allow the reduced weight from its base class.

Please read the complete rule set here, but the key elements are spec tires, header, tune and coil over. All car must stay normally aspirated, to keep cost down and reliability up. Pump gas up to 94 Octane is allowed.

Since our focus is car parity, we do allow for exception process so drop us an email if you have any questions or exceptions. We try to be flexible while ensuring no one gains an unfair advantage.

Tens of thousands of the GT86’s have been sold, but unfortunately the resale value seem low. This causes many cars to be totaled with relatively little damage. Those car, are an excellent starting point and often can be had in the $5-10k range. Rebuild cars often start in the teens. For a full list of resources see our section here. And with a competitive build starting at $13-$14k so you be on track for under $25k, which is on par with any other competitive spec series build.
